Don't fret....

Stop being afraid of color.  These days, everything is returnable.  If you like it, buy it.  If it doesn't work or not what you thought......return it!  Anything goes!  Filling a room full of items you have spent time collecting makes the room a statement.  If reflects who you are.  You are designing not only a space that allows you to enjoy your finds, you are creating a social buzz for visitors that will leave a lasting impression. So......Make the items you put in the room count!

A few quick tips to help you better design a space:

  • Put collections (like items) together.  Spreading them around the room will not do them justice and makes for a congested appearance.

  • Area rugs are always a good way to define a space or vignette.

  • Hang Curtains from ceiling to floor (wider than the window.  This will give the illusion of higher ceilings and larger windows.

  • Always add a pop of color.  Adding an item (ie: throw pillow, vase, books) in a bright color like red or orange (especially in a monochromatic room) can create a spark.

  • Hang a curtain or piece of great fabric from ceiling to floor in a small hallway in front of a door.  Your doorway will look bigger and the hallway will thank you.

  • Put something fun and unusual in a bowl on your dinning table (ie: your sons matchbox cars, hockey pucks, old spoons).  Fun way to create an interactive atmosphere.
